Everyone knew this kind of thing would eventually need to be done, clean-up. The devastation caused by the Tailed Beast had been immense, and even though they had started repairing and cleaning as soon as possible there were still complications. Some areas took longer to get to, and both wild and tame animals had taken up residence in such areas. The area he and Nyx were sent out to was one such area. Dangerous animals had taken residence, harming some others that had tried to work this area of the village. The report said it had been wolves, or dogs, as the people had been hit by what they called a 'pack of four' canines. That was all they managed to see before running away once one of them had been bitten on the leg.
A view from the high ground, which was where he was currently, it was clear that it would take a while to clean this up fully. Luckily, they did not have to finish it all on their own. Others would be coming, and it was done in shifts and waves. They were needed more for the animals, with some clean-up being needed afterwards. "Well, Nyx. Guess we should head down and get started." This would likely be harder for her than it would for him. She had basically been 'killed' near here and surely the sealed creature within her would not let her forget anything that had happened while they were here. That couldn't be good for her mood, as much as he wanted to help her break out of the funk that the Tailed Beast had managed to get her in to ever since she had been released from the hospital. He doubted it would happen any time soon, but any progress on getting her past any issue right now would be a relief on her and anyone around her.
She'd not gotten much slumber the night before and that made the idea of cleaning up even more off putting. Of course, she was never going to just ditch a mission with her team much as she didn't think they needed a new team-mate or captain. What good was that drunk going to do for them anyway? Not that any of it mattered right now they had a mission to complete.
At first the white haired girl didn't even seem to hear Chaoris just standing here one hand tracing the right side of her face where a long blackened scar remained.. The only sign on her that something had ever happened when last time he'd seen her around here that entire side of face was nearly missing on a surface level and her eye badly damaged. "Oh.. Yeah.. Coming." She seemed less talkative than normal more subdued for a moment slowly beginning to follow him down as her mind churned. It was early luckily so the fox was asleep after keeping her up all night the bags beneath her eyes showing this.
He was still concerned the the teammate that was standing next to him. Chaoris likely would be until everything was truly in control for the girl and the tailed beast sealed within her. It was clear the the Kaguya had gotten little, or no, sleep last night based on the bags under her eyes and the tone in her voice. "Try and keep a lookout so no animals sneak up on me from behind, all right? We just want to get this done and over with before either of us gets hurt at all." He would speak to her as he carefully moved down to where the animals had been reported. The Genin tried not to notice the scar when he could. After all, it simply reminded him of the half blown away face he had seen not too long ago.
Concern was probably quite an accurate thing to feel about the long haired girl beside him considering she most days appeared to just keep spiraling. Nyx was silent and calm for now compared to how she'd been behaving recently. As her team-mate headed down she merely observed and moments later began to follow him down to where they were set to work. Seems as if he was restricting her to guard duty... As they traveled even with it being brief without the voice of the fox to argue with she started to realize him not looking at certain points. Like he was avoiding looking at certain times. However, he hadn't actually changed in behavior towards her other side so Nyx didn't think it had to do with her current state directly... At least not in any way she could define.
"Chaoris? What is it, you keep looking away from me randomly..." She knew the scar was there but she tended to be a bit more worried these days about the fox ears and tail she'd grown. One hand lifted to those ears attempting to push one to 'blend' into her hair. "I tried a headband but, they've been gaining sensation so that hurt after the first two days." At first when they'd grown the protrusions had just been numb collections of bone, skin, and hair. Each day that went by they seemed to gain movement and feeling.
He knew she would eventually notice what he was doing. It wasn't like Chaoris was exactly hiding it. "It's...strange. You know? Seeing the scar only brings me a reminder of what I left when the tailed beast was attacking the village. Half of your face gone, body burned, but all that remains is a one large scar as if my memory of it was wrong. I know it wasn't, as we all remember it the same way that day, so it's easier to just not look than to see that mental image of you." It was nothing against her, not in the slightest, and he felt no negativity towards her. It just felt like he was looking at a dying teammate rather than one basically cursed at the moment.
Her teeth gritted for a moment opposite hand coming up to cover the narrow but long scar. Nyx looked down and away from him for a moment they all remembered that moment. Each word sunk in and while if the fox was talking she may get enraged without it's voice she couldn't exactly blame him. "Sometimes I swear I can still feel that moment even though they can't find any damage left besides this.." The new fox ears were tilted forward nearly pressed to her head.
The top of her finger's lifted to pull down that side of her forehead protector, causing the metal and fabric to move until it was covering that space. "Honestly, I could keep it like this not even the doctors know but-" Nyx sighed slightly moving her hand from her face the scar now covered by the forehead protector as she continued to speak. "That eye is fairly useless the truth is I'm partially blind in that eye, have been since I woke up. It can't see anything clearly it's just blurred colors and shapes." He'd seen a lot that day and without the fox in her ear she was just Nyx, a girl who could realize and sympathize with that. Acknowledge that even though she now shared her body, she'd almost died... He'd gotten it worse because he not only had seen her like that, found out what happened to her but, he had to see what happened to their other team mate as well.
After mentioning that she took the few steps down to stand next to him in the work space. Keeping aware of animals coming to attack would be quite easy. "I'll be truthful... sometimes it's easier to look away than to remember how that felt and the image of both of your backs but, it was the right thing. So I do get it...Frankly I haven't looked in the mirror since I got home..." Sitting against a piece of rubble she looked spacy as if staring at nothing with her good eye. She was too afraid it wouldn't be her reflection that she'd rather see how she actually should look presently or the nine tails in that image.
It seemed Nyx was understanding as to why he had been doing what he was doing. She would cover it up and mention keeping it covered, and then would drop the bombshell that she was basically blind in that eye. "Surely we could try and get a doctor to take a look at it and see what's wrong, right?" Wouldn't a medical ninja be able to fix such an issue quite easily? He was trained in basic Iryo Ninjutsu, so he was unable to do things like that or he would have offered to do it right then and there.
Chaoris had not thought about how it felt from her perspective. He knew it had been bad, but never imagined the actual image of it and how she must feel with the beast inside of her right now. "Why don't we talk more about this later and move on with this mission first?" It would be better to have less distractions right now, lest they be attacked by the canine's running amok.
He talked about how surely a doctor could do something about the loss of vision in that eye which was presently now covered up as promised. Nyx couldn't claim that she hadn't considered that at least once. "I thought about it but, chances are no medical ninja with the skills to do something like that will touch me if it's not essential since the Hokage is dead I doubt they'll want to risk anything which could affect the seal and since it's the only thing that didn't heal it's probably related." She wasn't an equal person in the eyes of some who were 'fortunate' enough to be educated but rather just a prison for the beast which had almost taken out their village. Even those up there which viewed her differently Nyx figured would still fear accidently setting the nine tails free.
She seemed to be semi retreating as she spoke not enjoying thinking about or addressing any of this but she smiled briefly when he brought up just getting back to work. "Yeah, we don't want bitten in the ass or something." She chuckled before taking on her serious expression again and starting to look around for the dogs that had began to run amok.
